GOD’S PURPOSE, By John North

“What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” – Romans 8:31

God does what he plans, and nothing can keep him from it!

Think about who God is. He’s the Supreme Being of the universe, the Creator of everything besides himself, the Author of life. He’s omnipotent, all powerful. If God decides to do something, what could possibly thwart his purpose? Nothing!

Some Christians are afraid of God’s power, as if it could mean disaster for them. But only those who are opposed to God’s purpose need to fear his power. If you’re building your life around God’s purposes in this world, then you can be sure that all of God’s power stands behind you, ready to support his work through you.

If you don’t have a clear sense of what God’s purpose is for you, then build your life around the purposes of God that are true for everyone. He wants you to honor him with your life, to speak of him to others, to give him the credit for what he does in your life, and to pursue a deeper relationship with him each day.

God is reassuring you through this verse today that he’s dependable; his promises are reliable; and you don’t need to be nervous about following his will in your life. If he is for you, who can be against you?

..so this is what we’re doing here today: simply being grateful for that one small thing… & one more small thing… & one more small thing — just taking back ground one grateful step at a time till the battle is WON. *Gratitude wins our wars.* Because gratitude isn’t only a celebration when good things happen; Gratitude’s a declaration that God is good *no matter what happens.*

Today, listen to your absurdly glorious life.

Listen to the holy heart of your one sacred life.

You need to take time to listen to your life —
so you can make the life you need.

Life’s not about growing in status— it’s always about growing your soul. Be small and love large: because getting to be present to love your people’s hearts is a great gift.

Let’s be still long enough to drink down all this ordinary glory and hear your heart keep beating how *all is grace*.

OUR NATION, By Debbie McDaniel

“Shout it aloud, do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet.” – Isaiah 58:1

Sometimes it’s hard to know where to begin or how to pray. We just know we have a deep ache in our hearts that cries out for God’s mercy, and a longing to see him heal our land. And maybe other times we wonder how effective our prayers even are. Yet God is faithful, no matter how we feel, and over all that swirls around us in our nation today.

He hears our prayers, He knows our needs. There’s great power in uniting together, turning our hearts towards God, and praying on behalf of our nation.

Remembering today this powerful truth upon which this nation was founded. We are “One Nation Under God.” He is where our real hope is found, not in our leaders, not in our economy, not in the condition of our nation today, or any other day.

What if God decided to stop leading us tomorrow because we didn’t follow Him today?

What if we never saw another flower bloom because we grumbled when God sent the rain?

What if God didn’t walk with us today because we failed to recognize it as His day?

What if God took away his messge because we failed to listen to the messenger?

What if God didn’t send His only begotten Son because He wanted us to be prepared to pay the price for sin?

What if the door tof the church was closed because we did not open the door of our heart?

What if God stopped loving a caring for us because we failed to love and care for others?

What if God would not hear us today because we would not listen to him yesterday?

What if God met our needs the way we give Him our lives?

THE ANGELS’ SONG,  by John Van Schepen

Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests. — Luke 2:14

On the night Jesus was born, shepherds near Bethlehem were watching their sheep. Suddenly an angel told them good news: the Savior of the world had been born! Then the angel was joined by a great chorus of angels, whose song has echoed throughout history ever since: “Glory to God in the highest heaven. . . .”

The coming of Jesus, the Savior, is the fulfillment of all of God’s promises. The Bible says, “No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known” (John 1:18). All praise belongs to God for what he has done.

The angels also sang, “And on earth peace. . . .” Our world is torn apart by warfare among nations and strife between people. We desperately need peace. Only through Christ will true peace come on earth. We read in Colossians 1:19-20, “For God was pleased . . . to reconcile to himself all things . . . by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.”

In The Purpose Driven Life Rick Warren made a statement that has stuck with me over the years: “It’s not about you. . . . It’s all about God.” The angels understood that when they sang the closing line of their song: “. . . to those on whom his favor rests.” Our salvation, from beginning to end, is the gracious work of God.

On the Fourth of July, four ducks decided to make a break for freedom. But the ducks got a bit too rowdy, and the night ended with them getting arrested.

facebook-ducks

The four ducks belong to Cindy Osiecki, who lives in Great Bend, Pennsylvania. When everyone was distracted by Fourth of July activities, the ducks left their yard and set off an adventure around their hometown.

The ducks waddled about a mile up the road, and they ended up in front of a local Pump N Pantry convenience store. The ducks hung out there, accepting food from Pump N Pantry’s customers.

When the ducks showed no sign of leaving, a Pump N Pantry employee called the police, who came to arrest the ducks for loitering.

The officers arrived, and they quacked up when they saw who they were arresting. The officers tried to herd the ducks into their car, but the ducks didn’t go quietly. Pump N Pantry employee Kat described the scene:

“They were being chased by one of the police officers. They were chasing them around the car. I thought it was pretty funny, to be honest.”

After a long and intense chase, the officers finally caught the ducks and put them in their car. They posted a photo of the delinquent animals to Facebook, and the hilarious post was shared hundreds of times.

The police called around, trying to find out who the ducks belonged to, and neighbors pointed them towards Cindy Osiecki. Osiecki was shocked when she heard the police had taken her ducks into custody.

“I thought it was funny, I’m like ‘are you serious?’ There were like ‘yeah we took them’ because I guess people were trying to take my ducks, aducks-3nd everyone was feeding them, even the cop fed them bread,” Osiecki told WNEP 16.

Osiecki is relieved that her ducks are safe, and she’s glad that the police officers handled the situation so well and with so much humor. She told WNEP 16 that the officers jokingly said that they took the ducks’ webbed footprints.

The ducks are now back at home, happily swimming and quacking in their backyard creek. It seems like these ducks’ criminal days are behind them!

MARY’S SONG,By John Van Schepen

My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior. Luke 1:46-47

One of the most beautiful songs in the Bible is the one Mary sings as she reflects on God’s faithful work and prepares to become the mother of the promised Savior. Though she recognizes that all generations will call her blessed, she acknowledges with humility that all of this will take place only through “the Mighty One [who] has done great things . . .—holy is his name.” She goes on to exclaim about God’s mercy, his mighty acts, his compassion for the needy, and his faithfulness through all generations.

God, in his mercy, lifts up the humble such as Mary out of sheer grace. Mary glorifies and rejoices in the Lord because through the child she will bear, Jesus, God will bring salvation from sin.

Many of our songs today—even our Christian songs—focus more on us: what we do, what we need, and how we act. It’s important that we also focus on God, our Creator, Sustainer, and Savior—and all that he has done for us.

I love some old songs that proclaim “How Great Thou Art!” and “Great Is Thy Faithfulness.” And some contemporary songs remind us that God is a “Good, Good Father” and that Christ alone is our “Cornerstone.”

That’s who the Lord is. And he loves you and me. Let’s rejoice in that today!

WHEN YOU FEEL WEARY AND BURDENED, By Debbie McDaniel

“Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28

For many of us, activity and busyness come naturally. We’re on the go, we’re in a hurry, it’s what we’re all about. We seem to be rewarded for how much we can accomplish, especially in short amounts of time. We live in a culture that praises movement, that places value on the busy. We tend to get impatient with those who are too slow about anything.

Nothing wrong being active or on the go. Except for this one thing.

We often never stop.

And it’s there – in the slowing down – that often can feel almost unnatural, in a society that moves too fast. Like we’re supposed to be doing something more but just haven’t figured it out yet.

We rub shoulders every day with people who are burdened, weary, or lonely. Sometimes we may notice, but many times we don’t. We’re just too busy or overwhelmed ourselves. And to be honest, many days, “we” are those people – the burdened, the weary, the lonely. Just needing someone to notice. To slow down. To take time.

We desperately need Christ every day, to bring joy and hope to our own lives and to those around us. Without Him, we will most certainly run dry. For we’re not meant to run on our own, our strength can’t carry us through every hard struggle and hardship we may encounter. But He promises rest and peace for our souls even in the midst of weariness and burdens.

Slowing down takes work. Stopping and just breathing deep – takes practice.

Maybe that’s why God says it so clearly, “Be still and know that I am God.” Psalms 46:10

Breathing in His grace today. And remembering to take time to slow down…

OH HOW i WISH I HAD DONE THIS WHEN MY SONS WERE GROWING UP.

08.09.17 Wacky Wonderful Wednesdays

This is Jim Thorpe. Look closely at the photo, you can see that he’s wearing different socks and shoes. This wasn’t a fashion statement. It was the 1912 Olympics, and Jim, a American Indian from Oklahoma represented the U.S. in track and field. On the morning of his competitions, his shoes were stolen. Luckily, Jim ended up finding two shoes in a garbage bin. That’s the pair that he’s wearing in the photo. But one of the shoes was too big, so he had to wear an extra sock. Wearing these shoes, Jim won two gold medals.

This is a perfect reminder that you don’t have to resign to the excuses that have held you back. So what if life hasn’t been fair? What are you going to do about it today? Whatever you woke up with this morning; stolen shoes, ill health, failed relationships, don’t let it stop you from running your race. You can experience more in life if you’ll get over the excuses and get on with living!
