First I was dying to finish high school and start college.

And then I was dying to finish college and start working.

And then I was dying to marry and have children.

And then I was dying for my children to grow old enough for school so I could return to work.

And then I was dying to retire.

And now I am dying….and suddenly I realize I forgot to live.autumn-word-animated-graphic 1969231_10152474467700674_8248051793314012032_n 10171056_837049046310048_2830100887171274284_n 10336683_476970205781935_3253153651675345143_n11057739_964344663651411_3148997326523708233_o11204985_10152828935936700_8946063239465089858_n

autumn-word-animated-graphicthe anxious leafTHE ANXIOUS LEAF

Once upon a time a little leaf was heard to sigh and cry, as leaves often do when a gentle wind is about. And the twig said, “What is the matter, little leaf?” And the leaf said, “The wind just told me that one day it would pull me off and throw me down to die on the ground!”

The twig told it to the branch on which it grew, and the branch told it to the tree. And when the tree heard it, it rustled all over, and sent back word to the leaf, “Do not be afraid. Hold on tightly, and you shall not go till you want to.”

And so the leaf stopped sighing, but went on nestling and singing. Every time the tree shook itself and stirred up all its leaves, the branches shook themselves, and the little twig shook itself, and the little leaf danced up and down merrily, as if nothing could ever pull it off. And so it grew all summer long, till October.

And when the bright days of autumn came the little leaf saw all the leaves around becoming very beautiful. Some were yellow and some scarlet, and some striped with both colors. Then it asked the tree what it meant. And the tree said, “All these leaves are getting ready to fly away, and they have put on these beautiful colors because of joy.”

Then the little leaf began to want to go, too, and grew very beautiful in thinking of it, and when it was very bright in color it saw that the branches of the tree had no bright color in them, and so the leaf said, “O branches! why are you lead-color and we golden?”

“We must keep on our work-clothes, for our life is not done – but your clothes are for holiday, because your tasks are over,” said the branches.

Just then a little puff of wind came, and the leaf let go, without thinking of it, and the wind took it up and turned it over and over, and whirled it like a spark of fire in the air, and then it dropped gently down under the edge of the fence, among hundreds of leaves, and fell into a dream, and it never waked up to tell what it dreamed about.

VillageHas someone ever told you they were struggling, and instead of feeling sorry for them, you felt better?

That’s how I felt the other day when a friend shared how she was struggling with fear. It helped me to know I’m not the only one who struggles, but then I felt bad for feeling good about her struggle.

That’s how I feel sometimes when I read my Bible. Like the story of Gideon, He was a man God used to conquer a huge army. All throughout Gideon’s story, you can see how hard it was for him to overcome his doubts and fears. I loved reading that, because overcoming has been such an ongoing process with me too.

What I really love about this story is how very patient God was with Gideon over the time it took for him to trust God completely. Gideon’s faith was inconsistent but God’s patience was absolutely constant.

Once upon a time a daughter complained to her father that her life was miserable and that she didn’t know how she was going to make it. She was tired of fighting and struggling all the time. It seemed just as one problem was solved, another one soon followed.

Her father, a chef, took her to the kitchen. He filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Once the three pots began to boil, he placed potatoes in one pot, eggs in the second pot, and ground coffee beans in the third pot.

He then let them sit and boil, without saying a word to his daughter. The daughter, moaned and impatiently waited, wondering what he was doing.

After twenty minutes he turned off the burners. He took the potatoes out of the pot and placed them in a bowl. He pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl.

He then ladled the coffee out and placed it in a cup. Turning to her he asked. “Daughter, what do you see?”

“Potatoes, eggs, and coffee,” she hastily replied.

“Look closer,” he said, “and touch the potatoes.” She did and noted that they were soft. He then asked her to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg. Finally, he asked her to sip the coffee. Its rich aroma brought a smile to her face.

“Father, what does this mean?” she asked.

He then explained that the potatoes, the eggs and coffee beans had each faced the same adversity– the boiling water.

However, each one reacted differently.

The potato went in strong, hard, and unrelenting, but in boiling water, it became soft and weak.

The egg was fragile, with the thin outer shell protecting its liquid interior until it was put in the boiling water. Then the inside of the egg became hard.

However, the ground coffee beans were unique. After they were exposed to the boiling water, they changed the water and created something new.

“Which are you,” he asked his daughter. “When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a potato, an egg, or a coffee bean? “

Moral:In life, things happen around us, things happen to us, but the only thing that truly matters is what happens within us.

Which one are you?

In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less, a 10 year old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him.

“How much is an ice cream sundae?”

“50 cents,” replied the waitress.

The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and studied a number of coins in it.

“How much is a dish of plain ice cream?” he inquired. Some people were now waiting for a table and the waitress was a bit impatient.

“35 cents,” she said brusquely.

The little boy again counted the coins. “I’ll have the plain ice cream,” he said.

The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice cream, paid the cashier and departed.

When the waitress came back, she began wiping down the table and then swallowed hard at what she saw.

There, placed neatly beside the empty dish, were 15 cents – her tip.

Watermelon-floral-divider-with-fluttering-butterflyI wonder if God ever gets as disappointed with me as I can get with myself!

I used to think God had a timeline for how long it should take me to mature as a Christian. I thought I should have a certain number of Bible verses memorized, a few bad habits kicked and so many hours spent at church each year. When I didn’t measure up, I was convinced God was so disappointed.

Then I learned about grace, which is God’s undeserved favor. The Bible says we’re saved by grace, but it doesn’t stop there. As God’s children, we live by grace.

Yes, God wants us to grow because He loves us, but He doesn’t get frustrated when it takes more time than we think it should. The maturity of our relationship with Him isn’t measured by our performance or minimized by a lack of accomplishments. It’s reflected in the way we learn, a little more every day, to depend on God’s grace. – Renee Swope

While Sydney-based photographer Sam Yeldham normally focuses his lens on brilliant scenes of the harbor city during sunset, he wound up shooting his first wedding photo in the spur of the moment. Completely by chance, Yeldham captured some gorgeous images of a mystery couple as a storm began to roll in. According to Yeldham, he was shooting a time-lapse at Bradley’s Head when he ran into a newlywed couple and their wedding photographer deciding whether or not to take some photos while it was drizzling. Luckily, the rain cleared for a brief 15 minutes, during which both photographers nabbed some quick shots. Yeldham captured a breathtaking photo of the bride and groom standing on the pier, half-illuminated by the golden rays of the setting sun as stormy clouds gathered overhead.Unfortunately, the couple left before Yeldham could get their names and contact information. To find his mysterious subjects, he turned to the internet. Three days after he posted the photo on Instagram, the photographer made contact with the couple. The groom, Chris, is currently on his honeymoon in Hawaii with wife Jess, but he reached out to Yeldham on Instagram after a friend of the couple’s saw the photo and tagged him in it. Now, in addition to the portraits that their wedding photographer took for them, the newlywed couple have even more photos to commemorate their special day—all thanks to a lucky meeting and the power of the internet!
