LIVING WITH THE END IN MIND

One night Diane Sawyer was interviewing Billy Graham on ABC News. She asked the question, “Billy, when you die, how do you want people to remember you?” Billy said, “I don’t know what people will think of me, but what I’d really like is to hear the Lord say to me when I get to Heaven, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant.'” Then he paused and looked at her and said, “But I don’t think that He will.”

We would think that if anyone was going to hear this statement from God, it would be Billy Graham. But what I think Dr. Graham meant was that while what we do for God is important, loving God for who he is is considerably more important and significant that what we do for God. I don’t know who first coined the phrase/s, “Living with the end in mind” and “Living life backwards.” But the idea is that if what we want said of us at the end of life’s journey—especially by God when we stand before him face to face—we need to clearly define our God-given life purpose today. And then we need to start living now to ensure that we fulfill this purpose. That is, we need to live life with the end of it in mind.

So my question to you, Dear Reader, is this: “When you die, how do you want people to remember you and what do you want God to say to you?”

THIS SENIOR CITIZEN HAS A “SENIOR MOMENT” AND COMES TO A HILARIOUS REALIZATION

Every now and again someone puts into words what so many people are feeling! Read this amazing email and see if you can relate.

Recently, I was diagnosed with A.A.A.D.D. –
Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.

This is how it manifests:

I decide to water my garden.
As I turn on the hose in the driveway,
I look over at my car and decide it needs washing.

As I start toward the garage,
I notice mail on the porch table that
I brought up from the mail box earlier.

I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.

I lay my car keys on the table,
put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table,
and notice that the can is full.

So, I decide to put the bills
back
on the table and take out the garbage first.

But then I think,
since I’m going to be near the mailbox
when I take out the garbage anyway,
I may as well pay the bills first.

I take my check book off the table,
and see that there is only one check left.
My extra checks are in my desk in the study,
so I go inside the house to my desk where
I find the
can of Pepsi I’d been drinking.

I’m going to look for my checks,
but first I need to push the Pepsi aside
so that I don’t accidentally knock it over.

The Pepsi is getting warm,
and I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

As I head toward the kitchen with the Pepsi,
a vase of flowers on the counter
catches my eye–they need water.

I put the Pepsi on the counter and
discover my reading glasses that
I’ve been searching for all morning.
I decide I better put them back on my desk,
but first I’m going to water the flowers.

I set the glasses back down on the counter,
fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote.
Someone left it on the kitchen table.

I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV,
I’ll be looking for the remote,
but I won’t remember that it’s on the kitchen table,
so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs,
but first I’ll water the flowers.

I pour some water in the flowers,
but quite a bit of it spills on the floor.

So, I set the remote back on the table,
get some towels and wipe up the spill.

Then, I head down the hall trying to
remember what I was planning to do.
At the end of the day:
the car isn’t washed
the bills aren’t paid
there is a warm can of
Pepsi sitting on the counter
the flowers don’t have enough water,
there is still only 1 check in my check book,
I can’t find the remote,
I can’t find my glasses,
and I don’t remember what I did with the car keys.
Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today,
I’m really baffled because I know I was busy all the day,
and I’m really tired.

I realize this is a serious problem,
and I’ll try to get some help for it,
but first I’ll check my e-mail….

Don’t laugh — if this isn’t you yet, your day is coming!!

MAN TELLS PUP HE GAVE HIS TREAT TO THE CAT. THE CONVERSATION THAT FOLLOWS IS HILARIOUS!

People with pets know exactly what it’s like to spend quality time with your beloved pup, kitten, hamster, or whatever other pet you may have as a part of your family. Quality time can include lounging around the house in your PJs with your pet accompanying you on a Netflix binge-watching spree, or window shopping the fridge for the perfect afternoon snack. Right? But how many of us spend quality time like this guy, with our pets?

In the video below, you’ll see another one of the hilarious times that a man has a conversation with his dog and pretends, with his own voice, that the dog is actually responding back. And the conversation is over everyone’s favorite topic—food!

Now of course the pup doesn’t REALLY talk, obviously because he can’t, but it’s hilarious to hear this voiceover, especially because it’s about food. It’s even interesting to hear what the man filming the video really thinks his dog is thinking. But if you ask me, I seriously think that if the dog could talk, this would be his exact reaction! Because who would be happy if all their favorite foods, especially bacon, wasn’t shared?

To make things ever funnier, the owner decides to get the cat involved in this whole skit. Carefully watch what happens when the man tells the pup that he gave his special treat, yes the one that included some chicken and cheese, to the cat!

A FARM KID WRITES HOME AFTER JOINING THE MARINES – THIS IS PRICELESS

Dear Ma and Pa:

I am well. Hope you are. Tell Brother Walt and Brother Elmer the Marine Corps beats working for old man Minch by a mile. Tell them to join up quick before all of the places are filled.

I was restless at first because you get to stay in bed till nearly 6 a.m. But I am getting so I like to sleep late. Tell Walt and Elmer all you do before breakfast is smooth your cot, and shine some things. No hogs to slop, feed to pitch, mash to mix, wood to split, fire to lay. Practically nothing.

Men got to shave but it is not so bad, there’s warm water. Breakfast is strong on trimmings like fruit juice, cereal, eggs, bacon, etc., but kind of weak on chops, potatoes, ham, steak, fried eggplant, pie and other regular food, but tell Walt and Elmer you can always sit by the two city boys that live on coffee. Their food, plus yours, holds you until noon when you get fed again. It’s no wonder these city boys can’t walk much.

We go on “route marches,” which the platoon sergeant says are long walks to harden us. If he thinks so, it’s not my place to tell him different. A “route march” is about as far as to our mailbox at home. Then the city guys get sore feet and we all ride back in trucks.

The sergeant is like a school teacher. He nags a lot. The Captain is like the school board. Majors and colonels just ride around and frown. They don’t bother you none.

This next will kill Walt and Elmer with laughing. I keep getting medals for shooting. I don’t know why. The bulls-eye is near as big as a chipmunk head and don’t move, and it ain’t shooting at you like the Higgett boys at home. All you got to do is lie there all comfortable and hit it. You don’t even load your own cartridges. They come in boxes.

Then we have what they call hand-to-hand combat training. You get to wrestle with them city boys. I have to be real careful though, they break real easy. It ain’t like fighting with that ole bull at home. I’m about the best they got in this except for that Tug Jordan from over in Silver Lake . I only beat him once. He joined up the same time as me, but I’m only 5’6″ and 130 pounds and he’s 6’8″ and near 300 pounds dry.

Be sure to tell Walt and Elmer to hurry and join before other fellers get onto this setup and come stampeding in.

Your loving daughter,

Alice

07.04.17 Wacky Wonderful Wednesdays on Tuesday, the 4th of July

Just wait till the end of this one!

A woman and man got into a car accident. Both of their cars were badly damaged, but amazingly neither of them were hurt.

After they crawled out of the wreckage, the woman said: “Wow, look at our cars – there’s nothing left! Thank God we are all right. This must be a sign from Him that we should be friends and not try to pin the blame on each other.”

joke, car crash, whiskey

The man replied: “Oh yes, I agree with you completely.”

The woman pointed to a bottle on the ground and said: “Here’s another miracle. Somehow this bottle of whisky from my back seat didn’t break. Surely God wants us to drink it and celebrate our good fortune.”

Then she handed the bottle to the man. The man nodded his head in agreement, opened it, and drank about a third of the bottle to calm his nerves. He then handed it back to the woman. The woman took the bottle, immediately put the cap back on, and handed it back to the man.

The man asked: “Aren’t you having any?”

joke, car crash, whiskey
The woman replied: “No. I think I’ll just wait for the police – I’ll let them decide whose fault it is.”

SHE WROTE TO TECH SUPPORT ABOUT HER HUSBAND. THIS WAS THEIR EPIC REPLY, by Josh Starling

We’ve all needed advice at some point or another about relationships. And for good reason. They’re often hard to keep fresh!

Well, the young woman who submitted the tech support message below (about her relationship to her husband) presumably did it as a joke… but then she got a reply was way too good to keep to herself.

The tech support people’s love advice was hilarious and genius!

As a wise person once said, “You can only control your efforts, not the outcome.” This letter reminds us to always make a fun effort at pursuing your significant other!

The query:

Dear Tech Support,

’Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slowdown in overall system performance, particularly in the flower and jewelry applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0.

In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as: Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5, and then installed undesirable programs such as: NBA 5.0, NFL 3.0 and Golf Clubs 4.1.

Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and House cleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system. Please note that I have tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail.
What can I do?

Signed,
Desperate

The response (that came weeks later out of the blue):

Dear Desperate,

“First keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while Husband 1.0 is an operating system. Please enter command: I thought you loved me.html and try to download Tears 6.2 and do not forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update. If that application works as designed, Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewelry 2.0 and Flowers 3.5.

However, remember, overuse of the above application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour 7.0 or Beer 6.1. Please note that Beer 6.1 is a very bad program that will download the Farting and Snoring Loudly Beta.

Whatever you do, DO NOT, under any circumstances, install Mother-In-Law 1.0 (it runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of all your system resources.)In addition, please, do not attempt to re-install the Boyfriend 5.0 program. These are unsupported applications and will crash Husband 1.0.

In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance. We recommend: Cooking 3.0.Good Luck!’

Good Luck!

Looking after someone else’s cats can be fun, but it can also be a little overwhelming if you’re not familiar with each cat’s individual sensibilities. When a Tumblr user named Amanda was tasked with watching her friend’s family of felines, she was thankfully left with a helpful note to guide her through the experience. After she posted the cheeky ‘key for the cats’ with photos of each furbaby, it was immediately clear that the descriptions she was given were spot-on.

When cat-sitting, it’s important to remember a lot more than just how the cat looks. According to international cat-sitting expert Maria Atkins, acting calm around new cats and giving them as much time as they need to feel comfortable around you is crucial. Cats rely heavily on scent, so it may take them a short while to get used to yours if it’s your first time in their home. When in doubt, however, play time goes a long way – with the occasional treat thrown in to sweeten the deal.

Get to know the whole gang below, and see if you can guess who’s who!

The Cats:

Here is your key for the cats:

Samson: All gray. The most handsome cat you’ve ever seen. Looks like the cat was drawn by a Disney animator.

Dobby: All black. No tail. Looks like a cat that was drawn by a person who has a vague idea of what cats look like but in reality has never seen one.

Dixie: Calico. Looks like she would speak with a squeaky voice. Very short. Will use her nails to love you.

Wilson: Gray and white. Obese. Still adorable. Looks like Tony Soprano. Probably the mob boss.

This was written by an 83 year old woman to her friend. The last line says it all.
Dear Bertha,
I’m reading more and dusting less. I’m sitting in the yard and admiring the view without fussing about the weeds in the garden. I’m spending more time with my family and friends and less time working. Whenever possible, life should be a pattern of experiences to savor, not to endure. I’m trying to recognize these moments now and cherish them.
I’m not “saving” anything; we use our good China and crystal for every special event such as losing a pound, getting the sink unstopped, or the first Amaryllis blossom. I wear my good blazer to the market. My theory is if I look prosperous, I can shell out $28.49 for one small bag of groceries.
I’m not saving my good perfume for special parties, but wearing it for clerks in the hardware store and tellers at the bank. Someday” and “one of these days” are losing their grip on my vocabulary. If it’s worth seeing or hearing or doing, I want to see and hear and do it now.
I’m not sure what others would’ve done had they known they wouldn’t be here for the tomorrow that we all take for granted. I think they would have called family members and a few close friends. They might have called a few former friends to apologize and mend fences for past squabbles. I like to think they would have gone out for a Chinese dinner or for whatever their favorite food was. I’m guessing; I’ll never know.
It’s those little things left undone that would make me angry if I knew my hours were limited. Angry because I hadn’t written certain letters that I intended to write one of these days. Angry and sorry that I didn’t tell my husband and parents often enough how much I truly love them. I’m trying very hard not to put off, hold back, or save anything that would add laughter and luster to our lives. And every morning when I open my eyes, tell myself that it is special. Every day, every minute, every breath truly is a gift from God.
If you received this, it is because someone cares for you. If you’re too busy to take the few minutes that it takes right now to forward this, would it be the first time you didn’t do the little thing that would make a difference in your relationships? I can tell you it certainly won’t be the last.
Take a few minutes to send this to a few people you care about, just to let them know that you’re thinking of them. People say “True friends must always hold hands, but true friends don’t need to hold hands because they know the other hand will always be there.” I don’ t believe in Miracles. I rely on them.
Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance.

EXERCISE FOR PEOPLE OVER 60

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room at each side.

With a 5 lb potato bag in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your side and hold them there as long as you can. Try to reach a full minute, and then, relax.

Each day you’ll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer.

After a couple of weeks, move up to 10 lb. bags. Then try 50 lb potato bags and eventually try to get to where you can lift a 100 lb. bag in each hand and hold your hands straight for more than a full minute. (I’m at this level)

If you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each bag!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In our daily circumstances, we can lose keeping our focus on Jesus so easily. Sometimes we get so caught up with magnifying our problems and disappointments instead of magnifying our blessings. When trials, disappointments, anger, hostility surround you, magnify the Lord and His goodness, His mercies, and His unconditional love He has for you. Lift your concerns, your disappointments, your circumstances up to the Lord in prayer. The Lord is always near; always and forever.

NOTHING IS TOO HARD FOR THE LORD, By Daily Disciples

“The apostles said to the Lord, ‘Increase our faith!’ And the Lord said, ‘If you had faith like a mustard seed, you would say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and be planted in the sea’; and it would obey you.” – Luke 17:5-6

Abraham was 100 years old and Sarah was 90 years old when Isaac was born. Both Abraham and Sarah were well past child bearing age. Most likely, they could not imagine having a baby at such an old age, but God had a different plan. The Lord knew the exact time in which Sarah would have Isaac and it would clearly be a miraculous blessing to her life. Throughout the years, as the Lord kept telling Abraham of this promise, Abraham kept believing and waiting on the promise to be fulfilled. Twenty-four years after God first promised an heir to Abraham, three men showed up at Abraham’s door. The Lord was one of the three and He again restated His promise that they will bring forth a son, a baby boy. Sarah reacted by laughing. The Lord responded with a question: “Is anything too hard for the Lord?”

Abraham was a man of faith. God said it and Abraham believed what God said. Simple, pure, powerful faith. Sarah believed Abraham and trusted his words but when the Lord showed up, she lacked in her faith to believe. She even laughed at what God said. For us, sometimes it is easier for us to believe a person or to believe in a person than to trust in God. If God gives us a promise we can have a hard time trying to work it out ourselves. The hardest part is waiting on the Lord to fulfill it. We wait, we wonder and sometimes we worry but God is always faithful to keep His promises. Nothing is too hard for the Lord. Nothing. If He says it, then He will do it.

Thousands of combat boots line a field at Fort Bragg representing every soldier killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Army veteran Mike Thomas, who donated his boots, has made it his mission to take photos for family of fallen soldiers who couldn’t attend.

I can’t control the things that happen to me each day, but I can control how I think about them.

I can say to myself, “I have a choice to have destructive thoughts or constructive thoughts right now. I can wallow in what’s wrong and make things worse, or I can ask God for a better perspective to help me see good even when I don’t feel good.”

HOW THE SAME DAY LOOKS FROM MOM’S AND KID’S PERSPECTIVES

This amazing video touched me deep in my heart.

Those mundane and exhausting things that moms do with their children might actually be the little things that make their lives magical. Vlogger Esther Anderson of Story of This Life has created a heartwarming video to remind everybody that moms, battling all the struggle and chaos, will always remain the best people in our lives.

Anderson made the video A Normal Day in honor of Mother’s Day. It features grocery shopping, failed naps, messy diaper changes, and other things moms go through on a normal day. Anderson, however, uses these examples to portray parents not as failures, but as devoted and loving magicians who, despite all odds, make their children’s time spectacular. The eye-opening effect was created by showing the same day through the mother’s and her child’s eyes. Sometimes, perception isn’t necessarily reality.

MELANIA TRUMP JUST MELTED HEARTS BY DOING THIS AT VATICAN HOSPITAL!

First Lady Melania Trump visited the Vatican’s children’s hospital, meeting with patients, painting pictures with them and taking selfies.

Melania spent time visiting with a group of young patients at the Bambino Gesu (Baby Jesus) pediatric hospital after she and President Donald Trump met with Pope Francis earlier at the Vatican.

The 47-year-old also toured the hospital’s cardiac intensive unit, as well as the recreation room, where she painted with children from nine different countries, pausing to snap a series of selfies with them.

She ended the visit by praying in the hospital chapel, while also pausing in front of a Madonna statue located outside of the hospital for a quiet moment of reflection.

Having appeared relatively somber and straight-faced during her meeting with Pope Francis earlier in the day, Melania looked much more relaxed and happy as she sat down with the group of children at the hospital, some of whom presented her with artwork that they had made especially for her visit.

One piece, which the First Lady happily held up for the cameras with a smile read: ‘Welcome in Italia! Hy Milania! I want talk for you!’

The multicolored creation also featured several hearts drawn in blue and pink.

Melania looked totally at ease while sitting down and chatting with the young patients, at one point pausing to snap some selfies with them, and also offering one young child a kiss on the cheek and a hug.

She also beamed with joy as she was presented with a bouquet of flowers by hospital staff, looking delighted with the token of appreciation offered to her during her visit.

Before leaving, Melania penned a brief note in the guest book, writing: ‘Great visiting you. Stay strong and positive. Much love, Melania Trump.’

With a red pen, she also drew a small flower and heart.

Church music still sounds like this at our church, Trinity Baptist Church. I am so thankful for that!

“God smiles when we praise and thank Him continually. Few things feel better than receiving heartfelt praise and appreciation from someone else. God loves it, too… An amazing thing happens when we offer praise and thanksgiving to God. When we give God enjoyment, our own hearts are filled with joy.” – Rick Warren

It is not easy to give thanks in every circumstance. But when we choose to thank God in the midst of difficulty, it defeats the forces of darkness in the spiritual realm. When we thank God for every gift He has given us even when things are hard, the enemy loses the battle against us. He is stopped in his tracks when we come to God with a thankful heart.

Learn to be thankful for every blessing from God in your life. It is of great significance to Him if in the midst of great trials, we can be thankful. There is a way of looking at life from the standpoint of eternity. The reality of eternal life and eternal glory that far exceeds this life is a priceless treasure. Our afflictions are working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.
